"A wonderful resource for both classroom teachers and families of young learners! This is more than a simple coloring book. It combines stories, hands-on activities, and the power of art. I want to read your second volume."
Lin Lin, PhD, Department of Childhood/Early Childhood Education, State University of New York at Cortland

Thimbleberry Press wants teachers at home or in school to have affordable access to the highest quality and most beautiful educational materials prepared by experts in their fields.

Draw On Culture©: China includes nine culturally significant lessons, and this fall we are offering a tenth lesson free...

Draw On Culture dragon lessonYour FREE download provides you with an extra tenth lesson on Colors and demonstrates the quality material you will find in all nine lessons included in the print or downloadable versions. Draw On Culture: China is designed especially for parents, teachers and home schoolers who don't read, write or speak Chinese. For those teachers and parents who are fluent in Chinese, enjoy these high quality lessons as you, too, help your students or children easily enter the wonderfully exciting culture of China.

From our shopping page you can purchase and explore nine additional, very inexpensive and easily downloadable lessons that combine language, history and art. Thimbleberry Press's approach to language and history effectively introduces learners to cultural difference. These lessons help you meet state K-12 curriculum standards required across the United States for teaching culture, difference, and diversity. A great example of cultural difference can be seen above in the first paragraph of the lesson on Dragons...you'll be surprised at how distinct they are from Western dragons. All sorts of language, art, social studies, and history projects can be built around this one topic alone. Let our imaginations inspire yours!

Draw On Culture coverAvailable now in both paperback and downloadable versions, this cultural coloring and activity book is a fun introduction to Chinese history and language.

Nine culturally significant words and phrases (China, Dragon, Phoenix, Bat, Gold, Nine, "Women Writing," Dumplings, and Family) are explained with lively, content-rich text to engage the imagination.

Pronunciation and stroke order guides make it easy for learners to read the Chinese word with the correct tone in standard Mandarin and in pinyin (the Romanized transliteration). The guides also help you to draw each simplified Chinese character correctly. In China the highest form of art is calligraphy--words are pictures in Chinese.

Excellent for K-12. First time learners at any age can easily master these interesting words and their cultural context through the art. Younger students can practice speaking and drawing as their teachers explain the written cultural text. Older students new to Chinese can self-educate as teachers lead comparative discussions on culture. And at any age, learners will enjoy the beauty of the artwork as they use their imaginations to bring the line art to colorful life.

Here language, art and history are combined. Draw On Culture© is a beautifully affordable way to learn about the world's fascinating and diverse cultures while meeting state curriculum standards.
